We stayed in a Lanna Spa Villa last week at Ban Sabai and loved it. Everything about this small boutique hotel is wonderful! The villa was beautiful and spacious, the outside bathroom amazing, it was great showering under the moonlight! The gardens are lush and beautifully tended. Most of the week we were the only ones there, it felt really special. The staff were so nice and helpfull, particularly the 2 young women preparing and serving breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

It is very easy to get to the centre of Chiang Mai, either by taxi or tuk tuk or, if you are like us and like cycling, borrow the bikes available follow the flat easy road (stop and visit the local market on the way) and you'll be in the city in 30 minutes. Drivers and other motorised vehicles are surprisingly courteous towards cyclists, much more so than in Britain! As previous guests have said, you can book a free taxi ride at 6 pm every day to take you to the night market which is wonderful!

I could go on and on about our stay in Ban Sabai! Other guests have already said it all so I won't bore you any longer but we can't wait to return and I hope we will one day. For our very first visit to Thailand, it couldn't have been any better. I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend anyone to go there! GO!

We are a gay couple and travelled to Chiang Mai to have our wedding at the beautiful Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa. Well, we want to tell the world about Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa as it was everything we had hoped for and much more!!

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel most welcome and at home. We were greeted by friendly, softly speaking staff expressing beautiful genuine smiles. Our initial impression of Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa, Chang Mai was one of peace, tranquillity and total seclusion from the outside world and our busy lives we had left behind.

Our ceremony was absolutely fantastic and more than we could have ever imagined. Ban Sabai provided everything we needed to make our stay and the ceremony a wonderful lifetime of memories.

From supplying and fitting of the traditional Thai costumes, hair and makeup, music, decorations, the mouth watering Thai food and the provision of 5 Buddhist monks for our blessings. No stone was left unturned and the staff and management worked very hard to see that our wedding was perfect in every way.

Our Villa encompassing traditional Thai style furniture, outdoor bathroom, full mini bar and TV/entertainment unit was just the beginning. Our room was attended to daily with staff surprising us with our towels prepared as origami Swans and flowers and our bath was prepared with an abundance of rose petals.

We indulged in our private downstairs area with sauna, steam room and padded sun lounges surrounded by tropical gardens and the beautiful songs of native birdlife. If we were looking for additional relaxation we could arrange a traditional Thai massage or an assortment of aromatherapy treatments.

The food was exquisite. Breakfast included homemade jams, tropical fruit juices, bread baskets, fresh fruit platter and traditional Thai Rice Soup. The a la carte menu included smoked salmon, omelette and eggs cooked to your liking with all the trimmings. Dinner was the most beautiful Thai food we had ever tasted especially Pineapple & Cashew Rice, Green Chicken Curry and Spring Rolls.

The customer service was the best we have ever experienced. The staff arranged our daily driver taking us to all our destinations including Buddhist temples, Tiger Kingdom and Elephant ride through the jungle.

The night markets at Chang Mai would have to be one of the best shopping experiences and destinations in Thailand. The night markets in Chang Mai are open 7 days and retailers are great to barter with whilst enjoying local delicacies and Singa beer to rest our weary feet. The Staff at Ban Sabai even prepared for us a ‘resort address and details card’ to give to our taxi driver home, ensuring we arrived back safely.

We come from a hospitality background. Our experience at Ban Sabai, Village Resort & Spa Chang Mai would have to be the most pleasurable, relaxing, friendly and humbling of all. We were part of “their family” with our personal resort representative Tokky welcoming us morning, noon and night leaving no stone unturned and assisting us in anything we needed, with a laugh or two thrown in.

The Resort Manager and his beautiful wife were always on hand to talk about our day, give advice and chat about their beautiful country. The Front Office staff lead by Assistant Hotel Manager Ms. Pattranit were very helpful and attentive... and always with a smile. This unique combination made the Ban Sabai feel like our home away for home.

If you are considering a holiday, a wedding or both in Thailand, no matter who you are or what the occasion, we highly recommend Ban Sabai Resort. The Staff are wondrously friendly and accommodating and will make you feel most welcome. You will not be disappointed.

Just arriving there took away any stress of travelling, staying there and having our wedding there was an absolute dream and leaving was very difficult.

We are already planning to return!

My husband & I arrived here after leaving Bangkok & as soon as we arrived it was exactly what I was hoping for & I wasn't disappointed! This isn't your average 'hotel', when you walk in somehow you are still outside! With relaxing 'spa' music through the reception you get a glimpse of the stunning pool with all the plantation surrounding it. Our room was a basic double room accessed by steps up to it & the view is of lush plants & the pool! With an outside bathroom & resident albino looking geko! We must have come at a great time as the hotel appears super quiet & we have had the pool to ourselves as well as the restaurant, this is not a problem for us as it feels like home! The breakfast is amazing with yogurt, fruit, granola, juices & cooked breakfast to choose from, this is a 'well being' hotel so lots of vegetable & fruit juices on offer to cleanse your insides! Alcohol is also on offer. We ate dinner in the hotel & so far it has been my favourite meal & such good value, we treated ourselves to wine which works out about £20 a bottle, but this is expected & Chang beer is super cheap. The hotel put on a shuttle bus to go to The Night Bazaar at 6pm & you should take the opportunity to do this as it is amazing, no hassle from the stalls you can browse & haggle at leisure. Rooms were cleaned everyday & would I would recommend anyone to come here we love it :)

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in early December. My overall experience was fairly average. The resort itself was in a nice setting with plenty of lush plants and trees. I found the service levels to be varied, at the times the staff were exceptionally helpful and went well out of their way to help. On other occasions, they seemed a little distracted and disinterested, for example, they called us a tuk tuk into town and we ended up waiting an hour to be collected. I am aware, this was not actually their fault however they were fairly disengaged when we kept asking them to follow up/request alternative transport.

Location wise, I did find it restricting that transport was needed to get into the city. We ended up going to the city every day, for those that are happy to relax in the hotel this would not be a problem.

The room standard varies considerably. We stayed in a lanna room on the ground floor intially. The first room we were in was very dark and felt a bit old and musty. We changed to another lanna room, Jade 3 (on the first floor). This was far better and well worth the change.

The restaurant has great food. We found breakfast to be delicious with a good selection. We also ate dinner there on one occasion, the food was beautifully presented and tasted great. In term of cost, it was about the same price as other restaurants we ate at along the river in city.

One final comment, be ready for mosquitoes. No matter what to tried (insect repellent, the mosquito nets on the bed), we got bitten every night!

We travelled to Chang Mai to attend the Commitment Celebration (Gay 'wedding') for a wonderful couple- with the Buddhist ceremony being arranged and conducted at the Ban Sabai. The resort is a beautiful mix of relaxed, high quality and understated opulence. The management and staff displayed a high degree of professionalism and relaxed commitment to all facets of our stay.
Their assistance in arranging the ceremony, from the costumes, make-up and the Buddhist monks was excellent.
The restaurant is great, there are some comments that the cost is pricey- but as it's on site, high quality and very well prepared- we found the cost to be very reasonable.

Just back from a lovely retreat in Chiangmai with wife and friends. Landed at 11pm Saturday night, the short taxi ride from airport was a breeze. Arrival was perfect, check-in was welcoming, the Junior Suite was promising and soothing, overlooking the lush gardens, pool and pond. The breakfast was a daily treat with freshly prepared by the ever-friendly and ready to please Thai hosts.
What better way to start the holidays with a two-hour oil massage under the Sala roof, surrounded by the pond…followed by a small lunch at the poolside.
Riverside street for up-market handicraft shopping or outdoor dining and Night Bazaar are only a 10 minute taxi or tuk-tuk ride, surprisingly almost every taxi driver knows Ban Sabai Spa Resort.
Another half day was spent at Central Festival, probably one of the world’s best shopping center, as well only a 8 minute ride away.
The last night was spent enjoying a Thai Dinner in the restaurant, followed by another 2-hour spa treatment the next morning before going to airport. Had a most wonderful relaxing 4 days in a beautiful natural and friendly atmosphere… I will certainly be back at Ban Sabai and will probably try the DETOX course for 7 days or so :)

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and found it to be my favourite of the 6 hotels I stayed at during my holiday in Chiang Mai. I stayed in a Lanna room and it was a good size, with a comfortable bed with mosquito net, and with attractive fittings and decorations. I thought the private outdoor bathroom with separate shower and bath was great. I also appreciated the HBO movie channel and DVD player that came with the (older style) tv. I found the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, especially the bread, and they made espresso coffee for you. The hotel is a 300 baht taxi ride away from the city (or use the cheaper tuk tuk) but if you're not planning on going out everyday and instead spending some time in the hotel relaxing, then this cost is reasonable and just needs to be factored into the price of the hotel. I found this hotel much better value for money than those I stayed at close to the city centre. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful rooms and friendly staff. Restaurant's on the expensive side for Thailand but pretty good quality. Excellent place to stay if you want to get out of town for a while as it is very quiet. Town is about 25mins tuk tuk ride away. Make sure you make use of the mosquito net!

This hotel serves really good Thai food. We were disappointed with the other restaurants we've been but this one is special. The rooms are nice, clean and quite big. The staff are not too friendly but all in all it was a good experience for 5days. The pool needs cleaning and the garden area too for mosquitos. Massage is great and I enjoyed it very much, Location is quiet but takes time to reach the central area.

Stayed here for five days. For three of those days the we could not use the swimming pool. It was green in colour and dirty. To be fair the staff tried to fix it but hearing the European owner shouting very loudly at the maintenance man made it very unpleasant. Nice location and quite tropical. Trouble is so many of the trees hang over the pool that it was covered in leaves by late afternoon.

The room we had was quite pleasant and kept clean. Breakfast was very basic. Not enough real choice. Half buffet and half ordering of hot food. Didn't bother using the spa or massage which was ridiculously expensive. Just go into the main town and massages are 300 baht, not 1,000 baht and higher. I did not see one person having a treatment when I was there.

To summarise, very hit and miss. Nice peaceful location, pleasant colonial type room and nice staff. Poor breakfast, rubbish swimming pool and very expensive spa treatments.

This was our first visit to Chiang Mai, Bangkok's "second capital" and we were not sure where to stay. After visiting the tourist attractions and spending considerable time in the Old City, which is busy with tourists and traffic as well as hot and polluted, taking a 12 minute taxi or tuk tuk ride to our hotel outside of the main city turned out to be the right thing to do. The Ban Sabai is a perfect little tropical oasis, far from the noise, traffic and pollution of Chiang Mai. It has a pool surrounded by lush private gardens and a restaurant on site that offers some of the best food we have come across in Thailand in 3 weeks. Not only delicious but reasonably priced!! The staff is lovely and helpful. In the end, I did not use the resort spa as the Thai massages in the Old Town were much more affordable. Otherwise, the Ban Sabai was a wonderful choice and I would definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed my time at this resort, however you must be aware that it is slightly out of the hustle and bustle. If that isn't an issue then you will find the staff here very helpful and attentive and extremely friendly. We didn't get any massages or anything here but they did help us arrange a day trip were we visited the Elephant Camp and Tiger Village which were great.

Great people and great stayif you want peace and quiet.

The staff was outstanding, with help in anything. Nice Spa and Sauna. The surrounding is nice, with the plants and the pool. There is a friendliness of the staff, where many Hotels can learn from them. Two thumps up!!! Just great stay!

Outstanding staff, very professional, friendly and helpful in any situation. The Manager is really nice too. The quality of massage is excellent especially when you have experienced cheaper little places in town which are really disappointing and not professional at all. Garden could be cleaner and Jacuzzis regularly checked. Gardener often take out leaves from the swimming pool because of trees very close but the atmosphere of calm is amazing. We had a very peaceful stay. Being situated 20 minutes from down-town is not a real problem.

I was there last year with a group and stayed in the lanna spa villa. I almost cried when I saw it. it was so beautiful. the staff were amazing. and the food was incredible. they tried so hard to accommodate you and even helped with baggage.

make sure you make a side trip to Elephant Nature Park. it is incredible to see elephants that haven't had a very nice life finally have a safe place to stay.

We spent three days at the Ban Sabai and it was amazing!!!! The staff is very friendly, the rooms are super neat. The upstairs room overlooking the pool are amazing. We stayed in the standard room which was really nice and clean. The upgraded rooms are are worth the extra $20.00. Our room had a ton of character, huge windows, mosquito netting over the bed (not that we needed it) but the suite rooms were huge and really nice with a jacuzzi tub, sitting area and balcony. The breakfast was surprisingly good and they were very helpful with transportation. Just a note: If you go to Chang Mai, The Elephant Nature Park is one of the most amazing places I have ever been to (I have been all over the world). I will NEVER forget my trip there. The Eagle Trek zip lining is a lot of fun as well. Make sure you do Eagle Trek, not the other one.

The Ban Sabai was a wonderful place to stay....travel well and burn on..)'(

Very nice typically thai style hotel.

Personnel is very friendly but hardly speaks english. Breakfast is very good as you have unlimited choice of an a la carte menu. Room is also nice, bit looks more spectacular on the internet.

We got a cheap roomrate through agoda, 25 euro per room per night. But with the normal room rate i would say it is overpriced.

The hotel is located 15 minutes out of toen by taxi, which wasnt a problem for us.

Atmosphere is nice, but hotel maintenance is very bad. The pool is quite dirty, half of the rooms are empty, shower gets super hot and super cold and rooms were not spotless.

They offer massages that are 10 times the rate of massages in the city, which is too bad.

They want to be luxurious, and they can be, but they need to maintain their property and staff needs to improve their english.

I spent just 2 nights here, but I thought it was very beautiful, wished I had booked longer!. Room was immaculate, the staff were very helpful and friendly.

When my friend and I arrived we were welcomed with ice cold herbal tea and cool wet towels, which was amazing in the mid day heat!

Food was tasty! Pool is lovely! I would very much reccomend this place to people looking to get away from the hussle n bussle and chill out for a bit, very peaceful.

Did not have the time to try spa treatments but the menu looked great and where they do treatments is outside, looks awesome, next time!!!

Went there some months ago for services at their Spa facilities. The rooms for massage are quite different from other spas in that they are outdoors surrounded by greenery with sheer curtains all round.

I would like to say that I would recommend the hotel for a romantic getaway, beautiful grounds and surroundings.

Did not have a chance to eat at the restaurant and did not stay at the hotel either.

We spent six days in this hotel, including New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We have mixed feelings about this place.

The hotel is located a bit far from the city center - our taxi/tuk tuk drivers had problems finding the place! If you want a taxi from the hotel you need to make a call from the reception desk.

The hotel has a few separate buildings located in a nice garden, the buildings are very close to each other which gives you the feeling of a lack of free space.

The swimming pool is very small, don't be misled by the pictures. There are about 14 sunbeds near the pool, definitely not enough.

We had a lanna spa villa, it was big enough for three people despite the fact that we had an extra bed put into the villa. The first floor of the villa is an open room with sunbeds and a steam room, it was good for relaxation and resting after a long day. The second floor is a bedroom and an open bathroom - our jacuzzi didn't work, unfortunately.

The room was clean but old and old-fashioned. The worst thing in the villa were beds, they were very hard and uncomfortable.

Breakfast - we had it included in the price but the quality and choice was not a 4* hotel standard! There was no cheese or ham, only on New Year's Day they served smoked salmon. You could choose only eggs in several forms from a menu card - fruit, jelly, toasts and a Japanese soup were served from the buffet. Don't hesitate to order as much as you want from the menu - one thing will not be enough and there are no limitations on your orders - I don't think other guests knew it. They serve really good, freshly-brewed coffee, though.

In general, the hotel is not worth the price (even though we had a special offer from agoda - which was cheaper than the prices listed on the hotel website). Still, we would have been rather satisfied if not the owners. The hotel is owned by a couple - a Thai lady and a Swiss man. They are both rude, impolite and unfriendly towards guests. They both didn't say "hello" to their guests and did not even wish us a happy new year!!! I had never experienced such behavior in Thailand, which is supposed to be the land of hospitality and is one of my favorite destinations

To sum up, I would not go back to this hotel and can't recommend it.

Had a nice four days here in a jacuzzi villa..positives were very friendly staff, great breakfasts...the best jams ive ever tried... the jacuzzi and outdoor bathroom was lovely...

Downsides.... for the cost put some nice toiletries in...room needs refurbing and an update of audio visual things..the bannister was dangerous.. the bed was in the middle of the room with no head board..uncomfy...gym not worth using...expensive treatments.. needs a bit of work and could be lovely... right now much better options for the price in Chiang mai..

Located north of town, it will require a taxi or tuk-tuk to go anywhere. That said, to get to all the places you'll want to go in and around Chiang Mai will require transportation regardless of where you stay. Everything else about Ban Sabai is absolutely outstanding. It is hidden in a quiet neighborhood, beautifully designed, and graciously staffed. Our room was quite large, nicely furnished, and situated with relaxing views of the garden. Dinner in the restaurant was better and cheaper than the well known places in town. we will be back!

Just returned from a very relaxing experience at Ban Sabai spa village. My sister and i did the detox programme which was very well organised and well thought out. I found my experience to be trouble-free booking online, receiving very quick responses to my emails - extremely organised. Ban Sabai Spa village itself is a lovely, quiet place to stay. The traditional lanna-style bedrooms were interesting and very comfortable. Although reasonably small you could find a quiet place to sit and relax and each place was fairly private. The staff spoke quite good english and were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Overall a very lovely experience and I would not hesitate to recommend staying here.

The Ban Sabai Spa Village is a beautiful traditional lanna-style resort with lovely wood-detailed rooms. The reception staff spoke great english and the drivers were courteous and went out of their way to help us get where we were going. One even took photos of us riding elephants and had them printed to give to us the next day!

Although the spa treatments were much more expensive than you'd get in the city centre of Chiang Mai, the atmosphere and attention given by staff made us happy to pay around 1000 baht for an hour. It's a little bit out of the action but a taxi into the night bazaar was only 150-200 baht, unless you get the 6pm free shuttle. We didn't get to use our outdoor jacuzzi because the weather was bad, but overall we had a magical honeymoon at Ban Sabai and would go back. We really wanted somewhere that felt "Thai" - i.e not some cookie cutter anonymous western style hotel, and Ban Sabai was exactly that.

All the people who work here are fantastic, feel pro's, the kindness and serenity is exceptional, the food was great and I love the fried egg.  It did get hot in the room during the day, great place the massage were excellent, the plants are awesome and I would return with out hesitation.  Also liveng with nature was cool, lizards, frogs, snails, fish, birds, butterfies, Etc., (EDDIE NEESE)

I did not want to leave.  Sixteen days and I loved It.  We had the Sapphire room and I think it should have one more A.C. It was very hot & uncomfortable during the middle of the day, but the food & hospitality totally compensated for thai.  I love the people here at Ban Sabai & I hopefully will be back.  Thank you all for your beautiful spirits.  (ANITA MILLER)

Dear Ban Sabai staff,
Thank you again for a really wonderful stay with you for my 50th birthday! As I don't have a facebook account or tripadvisor account I was unable to post a review of Ban Sabai. I would be happy for you to use the follwing comments on your website.

My sister and my best friend joined me in a trip to Thailand to celebrate my 50th birthday. Ban Sabai was the perfect place for us to stay and explore Chiang Mai. Booking was easy and all correspondence handled efficiently. On arrival our villa ( Lapis) was really lovely - authentic timber two-storey house -with three bathrooms!!!! Although none of us wanted to cook the facilites were there if we had wanted to. Open air bathrooms were a delight! We found the staff very helpful. This is not a five star resort however we felt safe and enjoyed being out of the hustle and bustle of the city. You can stay in hotels and feel like you could be in any city in the world. For a taste of a more authentic Thailand I strongly recommend Ban Sabai.

I had an amzing birthday trip and I will definitely be back!!!!

Kind regards
Kerrie Kirwan

“Hyggelig hotell utenfor Chiang Mai”

Located north of town, it will require a taxi or tuk-tuk to go anywhere. That said, to get to all the places you'll want to go in and around Chiang Mai will require transportation regardless of where you stay. Everything else about Ban Sabai is absolutely outstanding. It is hidden in a quiet neighborhood, beautifully designed, and graciously staffed. Our room was quite large, nicely furnished, and situated with relaxing views of the garden. Dinner in the restaurant was better and cheaper than the well known places in town. we will be back!

Relax and be pampered

Just what we wanted

Parfait ..... sauf quelques mostiques

Relaxed atmosphere away from the city

quiet retreat, away from the city and in the middle of a lush garden... the rooms are very comfortable and decorated with style, the staff is very friendly and helpful, the food at the restaurant was very good (but veeeeeery slow... I guess it should teach me to take my time when enjoying a break).

Great time, but look out for the mozzies

It was a beautiful resort, outside of the city so very peaceful. Lots of mosquitos due to being in the countryside and next to a large rice field which was a very wet so attracted lots of bugs.

July 2011

...also absolut empfehlenswert!

A tropical Hidaway

We stopped at Ban Sabai for 8 nights in July. It is located about 15 minutes from the bustle of Chiang Mai and there is not much to do in the immediate vicinity. A few tiny food outlets and a small shop. However getting into Chiang Mai was never a problem. The lovely staff will ring for a taxi and for around 150 bahts a single trip you are soon whisked into the metropolis. Ban Sabai is located in a residential area and the site is immersed in huge tropical jungle type plant life. (needless to say mosquitoes are prevalent) the rooms to have mosquito nets to sleep under. The traditional style properties are lovely. Perhaps a little dark with the over growth but this also adds to privacy. It's not the most peaceful place with airplanes overhead and local life (cockerels seem to be very vocal) and the wild life adds to the audiological input.....but hey.... That's how it should be. We were disturbed every night by something above our head and we thought it was some kind of owl. But it turned out to be a Tokay gecko that lived in the roof. Boy....was he a noisy little critter.
The breakfasts were ok but other meals were sometimes a bit hit and miss. Lunch time, one meal turned up a good 15 mins before the other and the other was well under cooked.
The staff are delightful. Friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. The outdoor bathroom was a little jaded and could do with replacing. Don't expect hot water..... It's Luke warm but actually just right once you get over the initial shudder.
All in all a positive review.

We stayed for 4 nights in Ban Sabai Village resort & Spa. I had chosen for this hotel based on the pictures on the website & because some of the reviews on Tripadvisor. I was a little bid misled by the pictures, the are more spectacular than the reality. The hotel lobby and the rooms are in Thai style, very nice. The spa services are too expensive (5-10 times the price compared to the massages in Chiang Mai town). The jacuzzi was full of leaves, and with temperatures of 30 degrees, the sauna and steam room were not on our priority list! The swimming pool is quite small, and a lot of insects ruined our stay on the sun beds. Being located at 15 minutes from the centre, this hotel has its positive sides (quite surroundings) and also downsides (too far from the restaurants in town). We payed 80 dollars for the Spa villa/night, including breakfast. The hotel is not worth the full price, should be around 250 $, there are better options in Chiang Mai. The hotel staff is very friendly. We haven't seen the manager(s), a personal welcome word would have been nice. The breakfast (more than 30 different thee selection, good coffee, 5 different jam, ...) and the food in the restaurant are very good. Overall, our stay was very satisfactory, but they could not meet our expectations.

Our stay at the Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa was a great experience. It was outside of the main city of Chiang Mai, probably about a 10-15min tuk tuk from there. The staff was so helpful at helping us plan our day trips and getting us around to see and do what we wanted. The beds were a little hard for our liking, but other than that everything was perfect. The breakfast was like an ala cart you could order what you wanted off the menu and they would go cook it up there in their kitchen. They also had fruit, cereal, and toast and jam sitting out. I would definitely recommend this hotel we were very happy with our stay.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The food for dinner at the restaurant was quite nice, although expensive compared to eating elsewhere - as were the prices on the spa menu. Get a hotel card - not many people knew where the hotel was as its about 5km out of the city. The hotel itself is nice - but agree with the reviewer who said it needed maintenance. Our shower dripped after use, the jaccuzi would cut out and in (even once you'd given up and got out!) when it felt like it and our air con broke down two nights running! The first time it broke we were told we shouldn't put it below 20 - even though the gym one is kept at 18. The second time we moved our bed to stop getting hit by water and ice! Like the hotel, the food is nice - simple and tasty.

We stayed for 5 nights and would have liked to stay longer ...it was so relaxing and such a joy to have to walk barefooted on those wooden floors. Breakfasts were excellent with fresh juice and fruit. We used the free shuttle service in to town frequently but taxis were a modest price so no urgency to be punctual for the shuttle. The reception staff were super arranging our various visits to golf club, cooking class, tiger show etc. One negative point was there was little soundproofing between adjoining Lanna rooms...so when we complained we were quickly accommodated in another room Maybe we'll be back as we really enjoyed our stay in ChiangMai

very fresh and clean, lovely staff that were always willing to help and also very cheap food that was lovely. the major issue was that the bed was very very hard. the only other issues were that the pool was dirty and the wifi didn't work in the room but its nothing to really upset anyone as you don't really go to chaing mai to swim and you can sit at reception to use the internet. overall it's was a very nice hotel.

Chet T.

January 2013

6.7/10

this is a resort spa which feels private and not crowded due to its size. it seems not very popular and its location is a little hard to find. but this would increase the private feel if that's what you like. booked a lanna style room by the garden. the bed was surrounded by glass view to the pool but privacy is ensured by thick layer of shrubs, bamboos and trees. i kept the curtains closed however, for full privacy. had a traditional thai massage with herbal steam one night by the sala (shelter in the jungle), it was excellent experience. the dinner and atmosphere at its only restaurant is authentic and excellent. all the hotel staff i've met are friendly, helpful and always with a smile. cons: be careful of taking a downstairs room as the wood flooring ensures that you will hear sneezing and footsteps of upstairs occupants. the jacuzzi villa probably will be very good. also the washroom does not look very clean or equipped modern enough for the hotel standard. hopefully they can renovate or improve somehow. if you're particularly sensitive to mosquitoes, bed bugs, i have experience of not falling asleep on the first night. the noise from upstairs and nearby village doesn't help either. bed is a little small for two person. the bedsheets may not feel very clean and i'm not used to the mosquito nets. turning on the uv light provided helped to keep mosquitoes away.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: This resort's location is 15-20 minutes from the town center, it will be a little expensive (200-250 baht/way) and less convenient to go than other hotel in the city. But the staffs will easily arrange a taxi for you if you ask 20 minutes earlier. The manager will also help to book various tour options. I took a 1500 bht private taxi for the day (max 8 hours). Entry fees are self paid though. Basically I choose, mix and match my itinerary so that it fit my interest and my schedule to be less hectic. The taxi driver was very courteous and ensure you have a relaxing journey. I visited the Long Neck Karen village (500bht), Tiger Kingdom (depends how many tigers you want to hug, range from 400bht to 1500 bht), Orchid Farm (40 bht) and Wat Doi Suthep (20 bht entry + 30 bht for cable car, donations extra).

January 2013

5.7/10

Ban Sabai is overall nice but not outstanding by Thai standard, especially with high season prices. Room are lovely but not really convenient, outside bathrooms are really nice but bathtub has no shower and is not cleaned from all the leaves that fall inside. Poor noise insulation, so we hear everything from neighbours, roosters and the Karaokes around which makes it not so a rural and quiet place. Service is good, breakfast nice and fresh, but people at the reception tend to push you towards pricey attractions and not necessarily towards what you are expecting (are they getting additional commissions ?) and can even lie to distract you from what you to see (they told us the botanical garden was overbooked when there is no advance booking). Finally, transportation is not really convenient and ends up being quite expensive if you move a lot (over 1000 THB a day). So, overall feeling is rather mixed and I wuld probably switch to a more central location (not less quiet) or to Mae Rim or more rural settings for real countryside experience.

My husband and I staying at Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa for 6 nights as part of our honeymoon and LOVED it! The room was spacious and private and the amazing landscaping and water features made for extra privacy and an ultra relaxing atmosphere. It was like living in a treehouse! The staff were absolutely superb and helped us to book ethical elephant trekking and a private thai cooking class. We also had spa services in one of the dreamy on-site wooden pavilions and were not disappointed! Breakfast was outstanding and the evening menu equally so.

Although far away from the city, the setting of this hotel in a beautiful garden made us just want to stay there all day. The restaurant was delicious, which will be one more reason for us to want to go back. The only problem was that after the first shower, there was no more hot water in our room. However the staff was very helpful and opened the door to the adjacent room which was vacant so that we could use their bathroom and hot water. We also thought the car pick up was free and they did not mention any charges on the phone, but we ended up paying 250 Bahts each way, a little more than a regular taxi would probably have cost.

Have just left this gorgeous hotel as part of my honeymoon in thailand. My husband and i were here for 6 nights from the moment we got to the hotel the staff couldnt do enough for us, the general manager was such a lovely and helpful lady anything we wanted shed help us out she booked all our trips for us anything we needed shed fo her best for us. All the staff are lovely always smiling and greeting you. The rooms are gorgeous exactly how it looks in pictures on website and cleaned every day, freeh towels, water etc The breakfast has a good choice lovely fresh orange juice to start the day. It is slightly out of town but its only 150 baht to town which is nothing and hotel put on a free bus ať 6pm every evening anyway. I dont know how anyone could write a bad review about this hotel its paradise!!!

Spas were all the rage a few years back. A few were really excellent, achieved a regular following and are still regularly fully booked. Ban Sabai is not one of those places. Rooms smelled damp with hard mattresses and pillows. Aah, but there was a jacuzzi. Yeah, right... Memorable monent: the thai female restaurant mammasan refused our request to eat in the room, stating that her staff could not spare the time and were tired from working flat out. The place was, and remained, EMPTY. Breakfast dishes and cups made from thick, heavy clay ensured that food and coffee was served stone cold. Am I the only one who noticed?? If you are the non complaining type who will put up with anything... just grateful to be in the Kingdom... It's all yours.

We enjoyed our stay for two days very much. The surrounding, the hotel and the staff are marvellous. We liked the breakfast and the authentic Thai atmosphere. The hotel is well kept, nevertheless some parts seem to have some age. Very familiar and kind atmosphere. We will come back, when we stay in Chiang Mai. As we hired a car, I think this is necessary to move around in the area.

Overall is totally great. Especially for the breakfast if u like American style, they are awesome. This place is quite and friendly. But one thing I recommend is swimming pool, if you want to swim here you should bring you glasses with you. It is because chlorine is too strong it will irritate your eye.

beautiful hotel with great service and ambience

food and servicethe hotel was serene and relaxing. room was clean and they have tea and fruits to welcome you! service at reception area was excellent. breakfast buffet was of quality despite lacking in variety. area for breakfast buffet was also cosy. if you want a unique and unconventional hotel experience, do try staying in ban sabai!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Must go to the elephant camp!

Spacious, well appointed rooms

Good rooms in garden setting

the spacious and well appointed rooms are the best feature of ban sabai. the garden setting is delightful, but the resort is in a village and there are neighbours, complete with crowing roosters. next time i'd opt for a spa resort in a rural setting, but appreciate this may cost more. the restaurant was also a bit hit and miss. i had a good meal one night, but ordered a room service "vegetarian sandwich" for lunch the next day. it was lettuce, tomato and onion! spa prices were on the high side, as they often are at spa resorts, so i went into chiang mai instead and had a spa treatment for significantly less. my stay was enjoyable, but i'd look further afield next time around. i have since learned that there is a shuttle service from the hotel to cm, but was not made aware of this when checking in and spent several hundred baht instead on the hotel transport van.

Restaurant Tip: the ban sabai restaurant is probably ok for one dinner, but plan on going to cm for meals if you are staying longer than a few days.

The women who run the Ban Sabai resort were the most warm, friendly, welcoming & helpful hotel staff I have ever met. By the time we left they felt more like friends or family members. It was a perfect place to stay aside from the fact that it is a little far away from the center of town. However that's also the beauty of it, peace and relaxation! I loved it.

The bed was a little too hard for my back.

The staff is very helpful and polite. It is a nicely done venue.

In the web site the hotel says it has wifi connection, which only exists in the theory, because it doesn't connect to internet. During my stay I several times asked the hotel to check and repair the connection and tried it hard, but it didn't work at all.

We had booked a villa in this charming Lanna style resort with our own sauna; and with a nice and friendly staff, good breakfast and the center of the city was only a 20 minutes ride away – we really enjoyed our stay.

No parking space, had to park the car outside the reosrt on the street.

This is a paradise not too far away from the city, 15 minutes by Tuk- tuk. The houses on stilts with under it a large chill-out area, steam room and sauna are spacious and nicely decorated. The pool is cool and the garden green. The restaurant serves delicious dishes at a very reasonale price. Breakfast is how it should be. The staff is friendly but also professional.
Like in most lodgings in Asia the showerhead was clogged by calcium, a pitty as the open air bathroom lost because of this its lustre.

Comfortable and relaxed
A bit rustic. Many Leaves from the surrounding trees floating in the swimming pool are only cleaned out once a day. The country side surrounding the resort offers nothing of interest. Don't order fried eggs. They are virtually deep fried and dripping in oil

This hotel is located a bit outside of Chiang Mai, so getting in and out of town can be a hassle sometimes. But the hotel/resort makes up for it in it's sheer ambiance and beautiful setting. This is the second time we've stayed at the Ban Sabai and would definitely go back again. The staff are so friendly, the hotel/resort is small, so the staff take pride in making sure you have everything that you need. LOVED IT!!!!!

We stayed at the Ban Sabaii for eight days in January. We were working in the area, what meant for us getting up quite early and needing a very quiet place to relax in the evening. The Ban Sabaii was the perfect choice for us, delivering everything you normally expect of a hotel - very clean, nice rooms, nice complex. Furthermore, the staff was very friendly, even getting up really early when we departed to prepare some sandwiches for the journey. Breakfast was included, and you had the opportunity to choose between European/Way (toast, eggs etc.) or getting some early taste of Thai food. The different Houses are built between bushes and trees, which makes it difficult to guess the actual suze of the complex, but it made us also think lesser and lesser of an hotel. Village ist quite right. A funyy suprise was the door to the bathroom: after a nice room I was eager to see an evcen better bathroom, only to be outside when stepping through the door! It was a quite big bathroom, tub, shower etc, normal walls but no roof. It was wonderful taking a shower under open sky. The time in the hotel was a perfect contrast to our work. Everyone in our team cherished the time.
